Having a robust process for checking vehicles and drivers as they access construction process is a fundamental requirement of the CLOCS Standard.
When a vehicle arrives at site, it is vital that there is a robust check of the vehicle and the driver to ensure that any agreed requirements and/or standards have been met such as verifying fleet accreditation, checking the vehicle has all appropriate and functioning safety equipment, that the driver has the appropriate licence and has undertaking any necessary training, and establishing the route that the vehicle has taken to arrive at site.
Working with our members, CLOCS has developed a number of resources to assist and support the checking process and these can be accessed below.
The following resources can be used to implement an effective checking process:
Working with CLOCS Champion DGP Plc, CLOCS has developed a gate check film that walks through the process explaining what is required and why.
For those looking to ensure their gate checking process is as robust as it should be, this video could form part of the site induction, be used as part of a toolbox talk or be incorporated into a site training programme.

CLOCS Site Access Traffic Marshal training
CLOCS offers Site Access Traffic Marshal (SATM) training to help ensure the safest construction vehicle journeys in and out of sites – a critical part of the CLOCS Standard.
SATMs stationed at the site entrance are the primary and critical interface between the site, fleet operations and the public. They ensure only authorised vehicles and people enter the site, while also ensuring vehicles entering and leaving the site do so safely and efficiently.
SATMs are critical to the implementation of the CLOCS Standard. Competent SATMs are recognised by progressive contractors as essential members of the team as they improve site efficiency and productivity. CLOCS training equips them with specific skills, attitudes, and the confidence to effectively implement CLOCS at the gate.

Accredited CLOCS SATM training providers
We have a number of training providers within the CLOCS community who are accredited to deliver CLOCS Site Access Traffic Marshal training to delegates.
If you are interested in having your traffic marshals trained but do not yet feel ready to deliver this yourself, please take a look at the list of accreditated providers and contact them directly for further details.
Clear dash safe cab
CLOCS, working with some of our CLOCS Fleet Champions, has developed the clear dash safe cab checklist, a simple, easy-to-use two page checklist to help improve vehicle safety.
A cluttered dashboard can seriously impede a driver’s view of their surroundings. All trucks come from the manufacturers in a legal state but all too often drivers or operators are retro fitting items that do not comply with legal requirements and impede the driver’s view.
Fleet operators should share this within their networks and incorporate this checklist into their daily vehicle checks. Principal contractors should incorporate this check into their site access control regime checking every vehicle entering/leaving your sites.
