CLOCS Member Meeting (May 2024) review

31 May 2024

We were delighted to deliver our latest CLOCS Member Meeting on 16th May where we provided a brief update on progress against our aims and objectives, and also heard from several other organisations who support CLOCS in our drive for safer, leaner and greener construction logistics.

Up first was CLOCS Programme Director, Andy Brooke, who provided a brief update on CLOCS progress. As a reminder,

  • All CLOCS members will be invited to express their interest in joining the CLOCS Strategy, Standards and Governance Board later this year when 4 existing members are due to step down. A separate communication will be sent out shortly to explain the process and confirm the deadline.
  • All CLOCS members are eligible for one free CLP training place each membership year. If you haven’t used yours yet, please contact us to discuss and book your place.
  • CLOCS branded fleet products are now available and can be purchased through CLOCS.

We were then joined by Mike Hope and Tim Bradshaw from CLOCS Delivery Partner, Sandstone Communications. Both shared their own experiences and insights and talked about the need to equip people with the knowledge and skills to deal with medical emergencies in extremely difficult and challenging situations. The Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) and First Aid at Work (FAW) courses, now approved by DVSA as CPC training, are completely immersive with learners carrying out practical scenarios within their own work place. All assessments are practical based, with the learner showing that they can provide the First Aid Interventions required. It also develops their ability to manage an emergency situation.

Tim also talked about their ‘What’s your Everest?’ training looking at building resilience and managing mental health. Climbing Everest is often used as a euphemism for facing the biggest challenge or obstacle faced by an individual. As well as an insight to the trials and tribulations of climbing the world’s highest mountain, delegates on this session will receive a tool-kit of practical skills which they will be able to use in order to overcome their own Everest, building resilience and positive mental health strategies.

Geraint Davies, FORS Concession Director, provided an update on FORS progress and priorities for 2024 and a copy of his presentation can be found here. Additionally, he also confirmed that the next FORS conference will take place on 15 October 2024 at the ICC in Birmingham and you can register by visiting the website here.

Shaun Winstanley from Mission Zero provided an introduction and overview of their offering and their vision for fleet accreditation. Shaun talked through how it works, the fees that apply and the many benefits they offer their members. To see Shaun’s presentation, please click here and to visit the MZ website, click here.

We were then delighted to be joined by Kate Walker from Diabetes Safety, who educated us on diabetes in the UK, sharing some powerful data, looking at employer obligations and discussing the practices that can often contribute to prevalence and complications. She looked at the risks this presents to our workforce and health and safety in general. To learn more about this, you can take a look at Kate’s presentation here and to see how Diabetes Safety might support your own organisation, visit the website or contact Kate at kate@diabetessafety.org.

Finally, we were joined by Scott Wilding from TfL who provided a useful update on DVS and looked at the industry’s readiness for the changes coming into effect in October 2024. Scott outlined the clear benefits of adopting DVS and also looked in detail at some of the requirements. He also addressed some of the most common questions being raised across the industry. A copy of Scott’s presentation can be viewed here. Scott also invited members to contact him directly with any questions and he can be contacted at scottwilding@tfl.gov.uk.

Our thanks to all speakers who gave up their valuable time to share their expertise and knowledge with the CLOCS community.
