Site Access Traffic Marshal training

Site Access Traffic Marshal (SATM) training has been developed by CLOCS to help contractors and other training providers equip delegates with the necessary knowledge, skills, attitudes and confidence to effectively implement CLOCS at the gate, helping to ensure the safest construction vehicle journeys in and out of sites.

This training is aimed at contractors wanting to become approved to train individuals within their own organisations, and training providers wanting to add CLOCS SATM to their training portfolio. Either way, CLOCS SATM training will ensure consistency in the training delivery across the sector and provides a robust competency assessment to ensure everyone has sufficient skills and knowledge to undertake this important role.

Important notes

  • CLOCS SATM Training is only available to CLOCS members.

Course overview

This one-day course is for those wanting to become approved to deliver CLOCS SATM training to individuals within their own organisation and on their own projects, and commercial training providers wanting to add CLOCS SATM training to their portfolio.

Trainers will discuss the current legislation and codes of practice on managing risk, identifying transport hazards, signage, the benefits of road-side segregation, holding areas and access control. They will discuss emergency planning, suspicious behaviour and explore strategies for managing difficult situations and conflict at the gate.

Trainers will also develop a better understanding of the important role that Traffic Marshals play in implementing the CLOCS Standard at the gate and the ‘mission’ to improve safety beyond the hoardings.

This training is classroom based in small groups of up to 10 delegates. Videos, real-life discussions, and practical exercises on hand-signalling, banking and CLOCS vehicle safety checks bring this training to life.

The CLOCS SATM trainer pack includes:

  • PowerPoint presentations
  • Lesson plan and workbooks
  • Competency test including question paper and answer sheet
  • Practical record to capture results and scores
  • Practical exercises and handouts
  • Delegate register for submission to CLOCS
  • CLOCS digital asset pack including logos, branding and template certificates
