Safety Forum #30 Benefits of digitial delivery management

16 May 2025

How digitisation of delivery management can impact safety, costs and programme on a single site and at scale

The CLOCS Standard requires the use of an effective delivery management system (DMS) to minimise congestion, disruption and emissions and manage deliveries to and from site that.

For some projects with minimal vehicle movements, that could be something as simple as a spreadsheet or whiteboard. However, for larger more complex projects within multiple deliveries each day, it is likely that a more sophisticated solution is needed.

In our latest CLOCS Safety Forum, we were joined by Richard Bailey from DataScope Systems who shared his thoughts and insights on the benefits of a digital solution. With a growing appreciation that logistics touches every part of the construction process, he explained how digitising delivery management can directly impact HSE stats, reduce project costs and ensure programme predictability.

DataScope Systems have more than 550 projects globally using its delivery management system; including landmark developments such as HS2, Sizewell C, The Ellinikon in Greece, Qiddiya in Saudi Arabia and the Western Tunnelling Programme for Sydney Metro. In addition, they have a channel partnership with Select Plant Australia who have been a key partner as the CLOCS Standard has been rolled out nationally there.

Richard has led this development commercially for DataScope for nearly 10 years and drew upon this experience to highlight how simple reporting on a single site through to complex analytics across a global Enterprise solution can bring an immediate and powerful impact to contractors and their supply chain alike.

Looking forward

This forum highlighted the need for everyone to be taking a closer look at their own delivery management systems to ensure it is robust, effective and is mitigating risks to the communities you work in by ensuring deliveries are properly scheduled and managed to minimise impact. Additionally, the benefits to project effciency and the possible savings in time and money are clear.

And finally…

Our thanks to Richard for giving up his time to share his knowledge and insights on this subject with the CLOCS community, and thanks also those who attended sharing their own thoughts and experiences.
