New Year, new CLOCS Standard

The new CLOCS Standard (v3) is now operational and should be adhered to in respect of all new contracts let.  Some elements may need time for transition and champions may be flexible in their approach to existing contracts and make provision for their supply chains to get up to speed.  Changes must be clearly communicated to your internal teams and external suppliers – we suggest you give 90 days grace where suppliers need to adapt for compliance. 

The new CLOCS Standard has been available to view since early October, but we’ve not received much feedback or many questions from our readers – a good sign that the new requirements are clearly articulated and achievable.

There are a couple of elements of the new CLOCS Standard for which we are currently looking to provide specific support and resources – Collision Reporting and Traffic Routing.  We’d really like to understand how you would currently undertake the tasks involved.

Collision Reporting
The new CLOCS Standard requires clients and principal contractors to obtain and review reports on all collisions that result in harm (and near miss incidents) that occur on journeys associated with the project. Where a need for improvement is identified an action plan shall be developed, implemented and monitored.

In line with the requirements of the FORS Standard, fleet operators must provide information when required by the client to do so.

Please tell support@clocs.org.uk how you will collect, report and monitor that collision data to prevent recurrence.

Traffic Routing
The New CLOCS Standard requires the deployment of Construction Logistics Plans (CLPs). The CLP shall define the ‘safest last mile’ vehicle routes to and from site and principal contractors shall ensure this is communicated through the supply chain.  The FORS Standard requires operators to adhere to “compliant, safe and efficient routes”.
