The CLOCS team were delighted to get back out on the road and attend the Freight in the City Expo at London’s iconic Alexandra Palace on Tuesday 28 September. This exciting industry event, now in its sixth year, provided a showcase for the latest urban delivery vehicle technology and brought together leading logistics experts for topical debate.
A packed seminar programme provided a forum to debate the challenges and explore the opportunities that continue to emerge in the urban logistics sector. Click here to view the speaker presentations.
A bustling exhibition hall gave visitors the opportunity to get up close with a wide range of vehicles aimed at making goods deliveries into towns and cities a safer, more sustainable operation.
A number of models also picked Freight in the City Expo to made their UK debuts, such as the launch of the brand-new 7.5-tonne Tevva battery electric truck, and an innovative last-mile product from If.Vehicles that enables delivery drivers to both drive it on the road and carry out pedestrian porterage.
Logistics UK spoke about the progress of Clean Air Zones and other air quality schemes as they are adopted in cities across the UK, while Grid talked about the challenges of kerbside deliveries and the opportunities to create efficiencies and drive down vehicle idling and air emissions. HS2’s Andy Rhodes updated the audience on progress on one of the UKs largest infrastructure projects and the innovative approach HS2 had taken in exploring all opportunities to reduce vehicle movements and mitigate the risk to vulnerable road users at every opportunity.
It is certainly an exciting time to work in construction logistics and this event highlighted the many opportunities to create safer and greener journeys, driving down collisions and emissions and driving up community confidence. It was also good to see real people in a live environment!
The CLOCS community, made up of planning authorities, clients/developers, contractors and fleet operators all have a role to play and CLOCS will continue to showcase the progress that Champions are making in leading the way for others.
