Safety Forum recordings

CLOCS Safety Forums, available to members only, provide a platform for individuals and organisations to educate and inform the CLOCS community on matters relevant to the construction logistics industry with the aim of helping organisations provide safer, leaner and greener construction vehicle journeys.

SF #27 Speedy Hire, the Direct Vision Standard and technology

In this session, we were joined by Gareth Jones, Group Fleet Compliance Manager for Speedy Hire, who spoke about how Speedy Hire have approached the Direct Vison Standard requirements and embraced technology as part of the solution.

SF #26 Bridge strikes, a clear and present danger

In this session, we were joined by David Somers, MD of CLOCS Delivery Partner Road Skills Online, who talked to the CLOCS community about bridge strikes, a high-profile topic with the Traffic Commissioners and an issue that can affect us all.

SF #25 Vehicle Safety Systems Installation

In August 2024 we were joined by Jason McComb, CEO of The Association of Vehicle Installers, to discuss the importance of using a competent qualified installer for your vehicle safety systems and how to make sure that your system complies with all the Standards including CLOCS, the new FORS Silver V7 standard, and the new Progressive Safe System issued by Transport for London.

SF #24 Achieving organisational success

In July 2024 we were joined by DEKRA Business Development Director, Daryl Wake who explored DEKRA’s data-driven insights and foundational concepts that underpin organisational performance, beginning with a brief overview of DEKRA’s mission and expertise, followed by a discussion on the critical role of organisational culture in shaping safety outcomes. He then delved into how culture is influenced by leadership behaviour and, in turn, impacts data driven safety performance.

SF #23 FORS and fleet decarbonisation

In June 2024 we were joined by FORS Concession Director, Geraint Davies who provided an overview of the steps FORS is taking to encourage and support fleet decarbonisation.

SF #22 The road to zero harm

In May 2024 we were joined by Ros Walker, Principal Behavioural Science Consultant at TRL, and Anne-Marie Penny, Senior Road Safety Policy Adviser at National Highways, to look at The Road to Zero Harm – reducing the risk of suicide related deaths for road users.

SF #21 The Human Factor in Fleet Safety

In April 2024 we were joined by Karl Wilshaw, Fleet Director for Travis Perkins and Dr Lisa Dorn, Associate Professor of Driver Behaviour at Cranfield University and Founder of PsyDrive who discussed the human factor in fleet safety.

SF #20 Driving change

In January 2024 we were joined by Mark Cartwright from National Highways and Driving for Better Business who delivered a session exploring some of the key underlying causes leading to road traffic collisions and pointing out that vehicles don’t crash, drivers do, that most vehicles on the road are there for work, and we still have 5 people losing their lives on UK roads every single day.

SF #19 Let’s talk about speed

In November 2023 we were joined by Lucy Straker, Campaigns Manager for road safety charity Brake who provided an overview of the upcoming Road Safety Week and their Brake5 challenge, explaining how we can all get involved.

SF #18 Effective Driver communications

In September 2023 we heard from Glen Davies from The Driver Handbook who talked about providing a digital solution that can be easily maintained centrally and where drivers can access the necessary information whenever they need it, addresseing many of the challenges faced by drivers today.

SF #17 The safety of work-related driving – a reality check

In July 2023 we were joined by Shaun Helman, Chief Scientist at TRL (Transport Research Laboratory) who shared his vast knowledge on this subject, and his own thoughts and insights on the success, or otherwise, of the work undertaken to date.

SF #16 Cargo bikes in construction

In June 2023 we invited John Oosthuizen, Strategy Planner, and Michael Barratt MBE, Construction Advisory & Innovations Manager, both from Transport for London, to share their knowledge, experience and insights with the CLOCS community.
