CLOCS works campaign – selected highlights

1 October 2020

Launched on 8 September 2020, the CLOCS works campaign has got off to a great start. Always part of our longer-term strategy, CLOCS has been ramping up efforts to embed the CLOCS Standard at the very top of the development chain by engaging with planners and private and public sector procurers.

The campaign kicked of with a letter co-signed by 5 major industry professional institutions and trade bodies.  It was personalised to include relevant casualty statistics and sent to:

  • 382 Chief Executives of local authorities
  • 25 Metro Mayors
  • 16 MPs with transport within their portfolio
  • 606 local MPs

A personal email referring to the joint letter was sent in advance to Nadhim Zahawi, (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Business and Industry), Grant Shapps (Secretary of State for Transport) and Matt Rodda (Shadow Minister for Transport)

All communications have been supported by our powerful CLOCS video.

But the work doesn’t stop here

CLOCS Champions are quickly picking up the gauntlet to amplify our call for action. Organisations have been taking our template, adding their own perspective and using their own contacts and influence for greater effect. We can’t include details of everyone’s efforts but here are some examples of what can be done.

  • Sir Robert McAlpine’s Chief Executive, Paul Hamer, wrote to over 100 local authority contacts around the country that they are currently involved with.
  •  JWD Haulage and JT Mackley between them have the south coast covered, having written to local councils from Thanet to Bournemouth.
  • Other Champions like Davro, Rendrive and York Cycle Campaign have concentrated on their hometowns.
